2011 Auckland Heritage Festival


Auckland celebrates its rich heritage over two weeks from 17 September to 2 October. 

It's a great time to explore Auckland and discover more about the history of your neighbourhood.

Onehunga features in the very full programme of events with a number of special heritageactivities - most of them FREE! 

Onehunga's Heritage Festival takes place on Saturday 17 September. This year's celebrations have a special Irish flavour as an ode to Ireland, Onehunga’s adopted second team for the Rugby World Cup.

Onehunga Business Association is running two very special Irish-themed promotions over September, giving shoppers and visitors a chance to win a pot of gold coins & goodies AND a trip for two to Ireland. See our Events page for further details.

Big crowds came to Onehunga on Saturday 17th September and had a great time watching performances and joining in activities throughout our town centre.

Onehunga Heritage Festival

• FREE•  A celebration of Onehunga’s working class roots including music,entertainment and competitions with amazing prizes. With a special Irish flavour,  this is an event not to be missed! See a full programmes of events here

Onehunga Heritage Day walk

• FREE• A one-hour guided walk of historic and natural places in the lower Onehunga area, highlighting the150+ year history of Onehunga. Take a look at what you'll take in on the walk here.

Friends of the Onehunga Community House on Saturday 17 September

1. A historic walk (followed by a high tea in Victorian style). Walk FREE
Onehunga Walk begins at the Cooperative Church, cnr Grey St & Onehunga Mall.
Time: 1pm - 3.30pm
 

2. Victorian Afternoon Tea
Devonshire tea at Onehunga Community Centre after the walk 
Time: begins at 3pm. $5.
 

3. Concert at Onehunga Community House
Starring Soojin Baek, operatic singer, with Greg Patel, Tenor.
Soojin is a classically trained operatic singer with extensive experience in performance and teaching and has sung on the stage in Italy, Australia, Korea, UK and New Zealand. Songs and arias will include Danny Boy, All I Ask of You, Sweet Lass of Richmond Hill, Climb Every Mountain and Somewhere Over the Rainbow. 
Time: 4pm. Admission $20

The Library Café
